You_Sketchit animation

For my Becoming a professional graphic designer 2 course, as a final portfolio peace to add, we needed to make a personal project. It can litterly be anything, as long as it shows off your skills and interests, and represents you as a designer. In our fifth semester, we made a design DNA for our individual art style. Mine was all cartoony, exagerated, colorful and expressive. So I know what I must do.

For my personal project, I wanted to make an animation. I had made a few animations before so I wanted to give it a go again! At first, I wasn't sure what I wanted the animation to be at first. I had a whole afternoon just pondering, scratching my head and writting down ideas of what my animation could be. I didn't want it to be long so I decided to make the animation that loops. This animation project took a day and a half to make.

Day 1 Original rough outlines of animation

On day 1, I worked on the rough outline of my animation litterly the whole day. Trying my best to make each part of the animation flow into the next.

Part 1 Yousef Animation

This was the first animation I made. It's me doing a spin! At first, I wanted the animation to be just this but with color at the end. But this felt to short to add to my portfolio. However, this was a great start! I wanted the animation to be about me and my characters.

Part 2 Lucky the Rabbit Animation

A homage to our web game project, Lucky the Rabbit. I wanted to include Lucky in my animation. Working on the game project was really something special and Lucky the Rabbit is pretty much my baby since I designed him. At first, I was going to make him run towards the other side of the canvas but that would've been kind of lame so I changed it to him hopping towards the end of the canvas all happily. The hopping animation would look more dynamic and less static if he was just running instead.

Part 3 Skaterboy Animation

A homage to my 4 animation, Skateboard Adventure. I wanted to include him in my animation. At first, I wanted to make him do a trick on his skateboard but I changed it since I already animated that in a previous project so I wanted to try something new. I ended up with the idea of dancing. More specificaly a break dance spin. It gives off a punk and cool feeling. I tried to make a connection to the skateboard trick.

full rough outline of animation

This is the full rough outline of all 3 parts of the animation loop I made. By combining all 3 parts, I made one heck of a cool loop! A few things worth changing to the final version is to add a smear frame that combines me and Lucky mushed together so that it looks more natural when the Yousef animation would switch over to the lucky animation. Another change was to hold the frame when Luky lands on the ground after the first hop. It would add more weight to the hop and look more natural. And finally, I forgot to add my beard so I'll add that to the final version haha.

Day 2 Final Animation

On day 2, after finishing the outlines of all 90 frames I drew up, I colored in every single frame. Probably took like 2 hours but the hard part was finished so coloring was fairly easy.

And finaly with some color and an extra frame or two, this is the final prodcut of my animation! This took so long to make, it is insane. It may not be crazy impressive but I love it so much. I tried to put as much character and charm as possible. What a journey this program was. I truly hope you all liked my work. :D
